POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for analyzing and reconciling detailed general ledger accounts as assigned. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors. Completes related reports, summaries, and records. Performs related clerical duties. 

Responsible for ensuring that the Credit Union is in compliance with all state and federal regulations.  Writes, reviews, and implements internal policies and procedures.  Reviews Branch operations for evidence of fraud, deficiencies in controls, errors, extravagance, or noncompliance with established policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Assumes responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of assigned accounting functions.
  • Reviews source documents and records daily transactions. Balances and posts daily write-ups and journals.
  • Computes figures and prepares recurring account statements.
  • Posts transactions to the appropriate general ledger account.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned.
  • Performs miscellaneous filing/sorting of checks, journals, daily write-ups, etc.
  • Completes required records and reports and maintains files.
  • Completes accounting functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Assumes responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies.

Assumes responsibility for the Credit Union’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and policies.

Manages, implements, and ensures compliance with applicable financial laws and regulations. 

Analyzes and reports data as required. Reviews and implements regulatory changes. 

Compiles reference resources for the Credit Union’s daily use to ensure compliance with regulations.

Assists Senior Management in developing policies and procedures for compliance issues. 

Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Ensures that policies and procedures are updated and are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends.

Develops plans to ensure ongoing implementation of Credit Union financial practices.

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with area personnel and with management.

  • Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions.
  • Assists accounting personnel as needed.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Reports the status of all account reconciliations to the Accounting Manager.
  • Completes and submits required reports, records and related documents.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.

Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

  • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

Accounting documents, records, and reports are accurate, current, and timely.

Accounting errors or discrepancies are promptly discovered and resolved (or referred).

The Credit Union is in compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Compliance functions are well coordinated with all other departments.  Provide assistance as needed.

Management is appropriately informed of area activities.

Accounting functions are completed in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

Required Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of related computer applications.

Experience Required:

  • One to two years of previous accounting experience preferred.
  • Past Credit Union experience preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Good math skills.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Cooperative and willing to assist others.
  • Able to use PC, calculator, and other basic business machines.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Talking:

  • Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Average Hearing:

  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motions:

  • Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Visual Abilities:

  • Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.

Physical Strength:

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.
  • Able to interpret various instructions.

Mathematics Ability:

  • Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias.
  • Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
  • Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct punctuation (or sign equivalent) and variation in word order; using present, perfect, and future tenses.
